Spring.

 It's 2022, no 2023, no, it's 2024

It has been a while since I last plundered here with my intrusive thoughts and left nothing behind but nonsense. Life is the same... Same, same, but different. There have been some ghostly sightings, aka some saved drafts that were never published, none of which I deemed to be rational enough for other people's eyes (and minds). There is a cat in my lap, she keeps demanding cuddles, so typing is becoming somewhat of a challenge. My thoughts are scrambled enough, and I do not require more distractions.

As the title hints, it is springtime. Green grass, flowers blooming, trees coming in with fresh coats. It's a wonderful time of the year and all that jazz.

Many thoughts are racing in my mind, and most of them are too personal for the vast cosmos called The Internet. So I do not really know why I stumbled to this far corner of my existence. Do you know?

I'll just tell you what I've been up to without deeper context, shall I?

Had a day off today. Went to Edinburgh to do some dancing with the Dindaru Dandaru folks. Tried to get cat food my cats like, so there is enough for them to nom nom while we're away next week. The shop didn't have it, so that will be tomorrow's mission to complete. Did some laundry. Did some research on these new meds I'll be taking, and that took up a lot more time than I initially thought, but I feel like the knowledge base is decent now. Still have to go pack for our wee trip away.

Work has been alright. We have some new staff starting this month, training, and all that, super fun (naaaaat). I do not think my patience is mature enough for such tasks, but hey, I can do it, nae bother. Small menu changes coming our way. Just your usual work-related things that are absolutely irrelevant to anyone who isn't actually working there too.

The never-ending studies are looming to a dreadful culmination in a few months.

Our two beautiful cats are doing well, not getting along, but doing well on their own turf and terms.

Husbandito is doing well, busy working and volunteering with the Cubs, having a good time.

We went to see a couple movies from the Glasgow Film Festival. That was fun. And tomorrow we leave for a small trip to chillax and escape the routine a bit.

Life is good. I guess that's what I wanted to say. It's a little mundane, but I love it.

Bye now, see you in another year or so. (?)

Man sāp tava galva.

I was going to write in English today, but this title "Man sāp tava galva" doesn't really translate into English well. Best I could think of is "Your head hurts mine," maybe you have a better suggestion?

I'm going to try and be as honest as my fingers and mind will let me.

I just realised that I haven't changed my facebook profile picture since January of this year. It lead me to thinking why so? and the immediate answer is that I like to change it after I've travelled somewhere new. But the truth is travel hasn't really been feasible this year. 2019 has had immense ups and downs.. Where to begin?

A couple of good friends left work earlier this year, and I got to step into one of their shoes - I got promoted. I had been looking for such change for a while now as I had hit a wall in a sense that responsibilities had become dull.

I signed up to continue studies at OU.

My amazing boyfriend popped the question, and we're getting married next year.

I went to see ENT doctor as my referral from mouth doctor finally came through. Many tests and scans later ....
Tuned out that the lump that had been growing in my neck for years was cancer, or as doctors like to call it carcinoma. Whatever, I call it The C word as the other two arise awkwardness in people. But that's just the beginning! Thyroid cancer is fairly rare. There are four main types, papillary (8 out of 10 cases), follicular (1 out of 10 cases), medullary (1 out of 10 cases) and anaplastic (very rare, more aggressive 1 in 50 cases). While thyroid cancer is more common in women, that is the case only for the first two types. The other two affect men and women equally. The one I had/have is medullary. As the cause and location of the four is different, so is the treatment. However, the primary treatment is surgical removal of the carcinoma. So I was scheduled for that and it was done in May. Medullary thyroid cancer doesn't have specific treatment afterwards as it will differ from case to case. For me, they will monitor calcitonin and CEA levels in my blood forever and if/when they go too high they do something about it. According to the doctor this will happen relatively soon, but they can't know when or where. Then it's either further surgery and/or trial drugs that seem to be doing wonders, but then again, who knows? As the reason for my C is a genetic condition these new drugs should work as they target the RET gene.

So, yes, as it turns out I have an extremely rare genetic mutation (it is hereditary, however I am a de novo case as neither of my parents have it). It is called MEN2B (or MEN3) - Multiple endocrine neoplasia tybe 2b. MEN has different types, and, of course, I have one of the rare ones, because if I have a very rare genetic mutation, why not make it the super rare one? Well, funnily enough this explains ALL the weird things about my body now and while I was growing up. I won't go into them just now, but I would like to finish on a slightly more positive note.

Knowing that I have this rare condition has given me some sort of peace. It explains literally everything that has made me feel like an outsider all my life, and reading all those symptoms has made me feel like I belong somewhere. So through facebook I have found different groups and people; and even people with the same condition. Yes, they are across the world, but I have people to chat to that understand me, and I can understand them.

My now fiance has been my Rock, and my family have been amazingly supportive! ❤

Well this has been me procrastinating, back to the books!

Publish? save.

I don't make stuff up (aka sources)

Atmiņu pērles

Sadrūp puteķu celi,
Izjūk smilšu pilis.
Kāds spārda manas atmiņu pērles.
Sāp(?)
Nesāp.
Es nezinu kā to sauc.

October

The damn time is playing an endless game with me. I just can not catch up. My skull is itchy. The white organic tea (my favourite(?)) is getting cold. The second chocolate chip cookie is lying next to me waiting to be consumed. The weather outside has noticeably gotten colder. When walking at night I see cars covered in water vapour. The sun would be long gone. The mountains that could be seen during the day are gone, almost as if they set with the sun. It's odd. Every year the seasons play this funky game with us, and every year we see it with new eyes. I wonder if this feeling that takes over is one of the good ones, or the ones that should be avoided. It's cold. But I suppose it doesn't necessarily have to be a negative thing. Right?

Sorry, not sorry. I tend to talk to myself like that.

The other day I remembered that a couple months ago I purchased a discounted mixer. That made me think that I would like to make a nice tiramisu cake. But then I remembered that I had purchased some form the shop not more than a week ago. So I decided to forget about that thought. But here I am going through the layers of my memory.

I keep reading these unending travel articles online. We do get the news that we ask for. As it seems, I have surrounded myself in everything travel related. It's my addiction. I can never get enough. They say it makes people happy.

And then this other article one of the most common regrets of dying people was that they wished they had traveled more. That makes me think it will be one off the list once I get older. But I don't really believe in regretting things. I am who I am because of what has and hasn't happened to me in my life so far. And every now and then I meet people that I feel embarrassed for and I think to myself how glad and happy, and lucky I am not to be like that. Sound a bit rude? Maybe arrogant? So what?Everyone is a little. At least I know I'm not perfect. And I am fine with it.

I thought this would be a constructive post, but I ended up babbling about everything and nothing all at the same time. Oh well.

All that because it's October.
Heck, it's October.

And no one woke me up when September ended.
Shame on you.

Go Up

Everyone is vulnerable, weak, pathetic. We take what is given to us, and very few of us aim, strive for more. We are selfish and naive. There is no person that is a saint.

But when you get too used to all the crap that people send your way, you get tried of turning the other cheek. You simply have no more soul left to punish. You become empty. All the scars are as deep as they can be. So every hurtful thing is like yet another raindrop in an ocean. It gets old. It gets to be the reality.

I am so weak that I can not be wounded any more.
As they say, you have to hit rock bottom to go up, and I've experienced this so much since here in Scotland, that I have to go up now, because there is no other way.

Love Hate

I hate going through old pictures. Reminds me of the olden days. The days when I thought life was difficult, if only I knew what was coming later on. I miss the recklessness, the carelessness. I miss being a child. Even though I still see myself as a child, the list of responsibilities has changed very much since when I actually was a child. It basically comes down to the crude basics, You know, I used to live under someone else's roof; I used to be fed. But now I have to make the so called important life decisions. It isn't even a choice thing, it's a must. I simply have to do what needs to be done. Plus, of course, I feed myself. I am no longer a pet. What an analogy!

Don't get me wrong, it is wonderful to live my own life. However, I strongly believe that I still need guidance. In my mind I really am just a child despite the fact that I am 20 yeas old (not for long though). I am a child even though I earn and spend my own money. I am a simple kid, a lost one, and in some way I never finished growing up. So how do I get that back? How can I lead myself when I don't know how it's done?

Blah woman, You make me sick. Grow a pair, will you?!

Did You See My Sexy Socks?

My brain is empty. I was going to talk about some boring things that are new at work. But then I realized how empty that would be. I wrote the fist sentence (We got work shoes recently.) And it hit me, how boring my thoughts have become. Ugh. Depressing.

All that aside. This month (as my one-a-month-thing) I will be visiting some cities in Scotland. So every Saturday, at the lest, I will be out of Glasgow seeing something new and exciting. This week I will be going to Stirling. It is a nearby city, closer than Edinburgh. I hear they have a lovely castle there (like most places in Scotland :D), so I shall have a look at it. Plus there must be some other nice things to see.

Life has it's ups and downs. I was biking home Monday night (with my new bike) and thinking about my life and where I am at the moment. I felt sad and depressed. I felt like a loser. For the first time in a long time I felt like crying. It hadn't even occurred to me that I have been quite happy recently. I don't even know why, life sucks. But all in one I actually feel a lot lighter than ever before. Maybe I finally see hope, somehow, somewhere. Maybe I believe in myself. Maybe I believe that I have an actual plan. But do I? Is it all just an illusion, again? Hard to tell.

Well, Well, Well

Yet another moth has come to it's dénouement. Summer is coming to an end. I wonder how people here in Scotland even get the sense of summer. For me the summer feeling has grown into me as I was growing up.  Me and my brothers would spend summers out of the city visiting relatives. We'd be eating fresh fruits and vegetables just picked from the garden. The school would be out for the entire summer. And naturally, you could feel that the temperature is higher, days were longer, and everyone would be our in summer clothes complaining about the unbearable heat. Plus it's the beach season, everyone goes swimming and tanning in the sun. However, here in Scotland things aren't as simple. As far as I know the school year here is longer. In begins earlier and ends later. (But somehow I get the feeling that they don't learn half as much as people elsewhere do.) The get some weeks of in the summer, but soon go back to school. Days remain cold, though they do appear to be longer, i.e. the sun stays above the horizon for a bit longer than in rest of the seasons. The grass stays green all year around. No one goes swimming and words 'natural' and 'tan' never come close to each other. It continues to rain 24/7, like any other season. The temperature remains low, and your body does not understand why fat storing season never ends *chuckle*. :D

Anyway, my point is that Scotland has no summer.

Yuck

Food tastes like plastic. Most of the food here is tasteless, and well, it just doesn't tickle my fancy. Of course, I am to be blamed since I am too lazy to make any food, i.e. to cook an actual dinner. Lately I rely too much on ready-to-eat stuff, or on microwave foods. Can't help it, I am tired. Mostly it is emotional tiredness, it brings me down and makes me want nothing. Besides, here it is three times cheaper to get a ready meal than to cook one for your own. It is more expensive and time consuming to buy all the ingredients, put them together, cook, ... than to simply buy something where all you have to do is pop it into the microwave for a few minutes... AND BAM - dinner's ready!!

Estimated Damage

Friday night I went to a friend's place. He was celebrating that her flat mate (also ex-girlfriend) had moved out. We ended up having a few drinks and playing table games (yeah, actual table games). most of us were up almost the entire night. Anyway, I stayed the night there, and then during the day I had finally gotten home. I was so tired that I locked up my bike downstairs, as I had done some times before. Sunday morning I had a bad gut-feeling. The moment I woke up I went straight to the window to peek at my bike. And then I was that the back wheel was up, and somehow shoved into the bushes. Then I decided that I should leave timely for work, just in case I'll have to walk. And right I was, the seat had been taken off the bike.

Once I got home from work I took the bike upstairs. I had also gotten the seat back, Kaspars saw that it was outside in the grass. Well, here is the full list of what the hooligans have done:
  • Pulled of the seat
  • Took apart the brakes
  • Turned around the light reflector
  • Changed the speeds around
  • Kicked about the wheels
  • Punctured the tires
  • Destroyed the lock

I got this bike for 30 pounds. Don't know if I should sell this one, give it away, or try to fix it, or just get a new one.

AND, YES, I do blame myself for leaving the bike outside. However, I am raging that people would just destroy someone else's property just for the sake of it. I secretly wish someone had rather stolen it. Because then there would at least be some use of it.

Life is life. Blah.

Work

Rant. Now I will be ranting about my work. I am so fed up, I don't even know where to begin. Ok, I do know where to begin. Polish. The Polish at my work are a nightmare. For starters they work really slow, are unproductive. They chit-chat more than they actually work. Then the most annoying thing is that they've been living in an English-speaking country for so many years, but none of them can actually form even a simple sentence!!! How am I supposed to work with people who have absolutely zero knowledge of the English language? One of the supervisors in Polish as well. I do not know how long she has been living in Scotland, but she works at this place for more than five years (i know, wtf? right!), and she still hasn't learned simple grammar rules. Every sentence she says is wrong. To make it even better she sings along to the songs on the radio. She sings what she thinks are the right things, which is obviously wrong as hell. Oh god. To continue on the subject of Polish people, there is this fella at work who has a girlfriend (who also happens to work at the same place), but he keeps flirting with me every day. This is so annoying when i don't even find the lad attractive. Ugh.
Also at work there are the two guys that i used to live with, and they can get really annoying and stupid as well. Gosh.
Then there is the management. One of our managers almost never showers, and always stinks terribly. It's pure disgusting. The same man also gets some "excellent" ideas on a daily bases. The problem being that his ideas make our work harder. The other manager has absolutely no respect for other employees. He jokes a lot, that's not bad, of course, but often he crosses the line between funny and offensive.
Gosh I could go on and on about all the things I really dislike at my job. And to make things even better my last salary was missing the wage of a few hours. I went to the higher instances, and told them that I hope this will not happen again. HAhA. They said they would add those few pounds on my next wage slip. Ugh.

P.S. No more slogans.

No rīta cepu pankūkas, protams. Līdz ar to tagad esmu pārgurusi.

Ja jāteic atklāti, man tā viņu ņemšanas jau tiešām līdz kaklam. Šitā turpināt es neļaušu. :P

Klusums.

Ja klusums, tad klusums. Cienījamie viesi, šodien it visiem un it visam ir jāklusē, jāmīt nāves klusumā.

"Dod man ar!"

Rīt, starpcitu, dodos atpakaļ uz Skotiju.

Don't Look Back ?

Boo hoo.

It's officially the time when we should look back to yet another year that has almost run through our fingers.

Let's see where I'm at. I'm living in a student residence, and attending my first year at UWS. I'm in Scotland, Paisley, an adorable but boring town not far from nation's largest city Glasgow. Though snow surprised local people very early, late November, i'm pleased that there is no snow outside at the moment. It was quite warm yesterday, for a winter day, and according to BBC it will be around plus five today. Murr, not bad for the New Year's Eve.

I miss my friends and family dearly. And it was sad to not be with them over Christmas.

I'm feeling good though because my life has changed in the past year more than I thought it would.

Let's run back now. At the begining of the year I was still living in Canada. I had applied to universities in December and I wondered if I'd get accepted. I was very frustrated about school because of upcoming exams. However, i was pleased that the second semester would start within a month.

I don't think I ever even pictured myself at a university. Yes, of course, i had the thought, and hope that i will be, but the image in my head never reached beyond a piece of paper that would say that I'm in.

Feels so weird how much life can change in one year. I was hoping i'd be able to explain, but i can't find the right words.

So I plan on having an unforgettable last day of the year. I have a secret. You guessed it, i'm not gonna tell you.

Blah, today words are not being my friends.

So, do look back on the things that have changed. Take a bow, yet another year well played. The curtain closes and quickly the set is changed. Light and sound operators are ready, actors in places, director's palms are getting sweaty, the audience turns to quite as the room sinks into darkness. The stage crew re-open the curtain as sound operator hits PLAY - a brand new theme song is on. Light operator turns on the fifth knob to full brightness, it's a spotlight on you.
Let the play begin.

Ay, happy new year my dear imaginary friends!

P.S. I might change the title from "i'm like a dragonfly" to "i am a dragonfly."

LaikaM

Adventes vainags man nav. Ar to man pietiks šim gadam.

Šodien man slikts garīgais un viss, nekas nespēs to pieveikt.

Man napatīk negācijas, tāpēc vairāk nerakstīšu. Pietiek.

UGLY

I'd rather be wealthy and ugly than dumb and sexy, or sickly but wise. There are several reasons why i would make such a choice. First, it mentions nothing about intellect, so i am the one who determines that. And, besides, the more money i have, the more access to better education. Second reason is really obvious, why would i not take money? Even though people say that money can't buy happiness, it has been proved (sorry, i will not search for references) that to a certain extent money CAN bring happiness. So, show me the money. :P
Third, this one as well does not require lots of thinking. I'm ugly already, so it would make no difference to me. And now that i would be rich i could spend as much money as i want to fix my ugly teeth, and get plastic surgeries to fix anything else. (Ha, you all probably know my view on plastic surgeries (in case if you don't, i support such surgeries only if they are needed from the medic perspective, NOT if some celebrity hates her/his nose or old face), but you gotta admitt that it's a good point that i got there). So that's my choice and i'll have it stay as my choice.

Other than that...
Life in Scotland is going fine. Yes, i'm using this word for a reason, because in this context it has somewhat negative connotation. There have been some issues with me getting my time well spent, but i'm working on it, at some level. Ok, i hate complaining, so let's assume that i'm in a great mood, shall we!
Yesterday i walked into a sports store. I went in looking for running shoes. There were so many to choose from, and the prices as well had quite a variety. I was looking for dark, preferably black inexpensive shoes. I found ones that i really liked and i almost got them, but then i decided to wait for about two days. Maybe i will find something better, and i wanted to try them on with a decent sock (i had on the thin female sock at that time). Today i didn't have time to get there, since all stores here close up real early, but i'm thinking that i will buy them tomorrow or on Saturday.

Cheers.

Blogging time!

Tikko nāku no Politikas lekcijas.

Man pietrūka mans blogs.

(Es nespēju atturēties un to nenosaukt par Harija Potera mērci, nu COME ON, ir taču smieklīgi!) Tās pamatā ir etiķis, un man etiķis riebjas. Tā vismaz man likās. Labi, gana par to.
Nedaudz apcepu. Tad es piemetu pāris karotes mērci (to nopirku priekš maizēm kā piedevu, bet man tā nedaudz par asu, garša jau nav slikta, un smaršo ar jauki). Samaisa, pacep un liek uz šķīvja. Virsū sabēru apgrauzdētas sēkliņas, dažas sķēles svaiga gurķa (man vienkārši prasījās kas tāds). Un man liekas, ka lielisks garšu savilkums. Nākamreiz pieliksu klāt citu mērci, varbūt Hariju Poteru! Hehe.

Drīz jāskrien uz Politikas semināru. Bez tā man beidzot japabeidz rakstīt CV (jeb Resume (jeb sviests)). Vēl vajag nopirkt zābakus, jo apnīk jau, ka kājas gandrīz visu laiku slapjas (un man sķiet, ka kurpes ar sāk ost! FUI!).

Lai gan sakāmā man vēl ir daudz, un vienmēr būs, pagaidām ar to es beigšu.

Bučas mīlīši.

scotland.

And so finally I'm in Scotland. I thought that this time would never come. I've been here for 8 days now. The first week had its ups and downs. The first day was painful. I was walking around with my suitcase and my bag searching for university and later for the residence. The next day my arm muscles hurt as if I had been at the gym (and everyone knows that I haven't been there in ages, haha).
Anyway, in university the first week was a mess. Finding everything was devastating. Now all I know is that there is a lot to learn and a lot to read.
Yesterday I went to a party at the Student Union. Now that was fun!!!
The plan for the weekend is to relax.
Love You all, but you all ready knew that. :)
